Thumbs up to Chennai Metro Rail

Chief safety experts have given the go-ahead for running of Chennai Metro trains.
After the first leg of the final safety audit, carried out earlier this month, the commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS), Bengaluru, has recommended sanction for Chennai Metro trains — referred to as ‘rolling stock’ in engineering parlance.
An official of CMRS said, “We have given our recommendation for sanction to the board; we were quite satisfied with the inspection of ‘rolling stock’. Now, it is only a matter of time before the approval comes.” CMRS officials were back in Chennai on Monday for the final leg of inspection of stations and track.
Sources said they inspected the stations and track from Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar. On Tuesday, a few more places will be inspected.
Safety certification by CMRS is mandatory before the first Metro Rail service between Koyambedu and Alandur can be thrown open to the public.
